Speakers

For the plenary sesions (opening and closing), the organization committe has invited the following speakers:

  • Dr. Miriam Bueno (opening session)

General Deputy Director of Foresight, Strategy and Regulations in Energy Matters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) . Subdirectora General de Prospectiva, Estrategia y Normativa en Materia de Energía MITECO. ​State Engineer since 2016, She obtained her PhD. in Electrical Engineering in 2012.

She has worked to develop the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the MITECO

  • Dr. Luisa F. Cabeza (opening session)

Dr. Cabeza is a Full professor and researcher at the Universitat de Lleida. She received her PhD in Industrial Engineering from University Ramon Llull  and worked as a postdoc in USDA-ERRC in Philadelphia, USA.  She has experience as project leader, WP leader and researcher in numerous national and international research projects. Her expertise is climate change and thermal energy storage. Author of more than three hundred peer-review articles, she is currently contributor of  Working Group III of the Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and IEA agreements.

  • Dr. Manuel Blanco (closing session)

Dr. Manuel Blanco is a renowned expert on Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies with more than 38 years of experience leading CSP research teams around world. He holds a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Massachusetts, USA (1993) and a Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Seville, Spain (1996). He is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Solar Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part-time Professor of The Cyprus Institute (CYI). Earlier, he was European Research Area Chair in Solar Thermal Technologies at CYI; Science Leader of the Solar Energy Systems Research Group of Australia’s National Research Agency (CSIRO) and Director of the Australian Solar Thermal Research Initiative (ASTRI); Director of the Solar Thermal Energy Department of the National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain (CENER); and Director of the Plataforma Solar de Almería of CIEMAT. He also served as Chair of SolarPACES (the Technology Collaboration Program of the International Energy Agency on CSP technologies and Solar Chemistry) from 2011 to 2017 and Vice-Chair from 2017 to 2021. 

  • Dr. Omar Masera (closing session)

Dr. Omar Masera is the head of the Eco-technological and Bioenergy Innovation research group and coordinates the Solid Biofuels Cluster in the Ecosystem and Sustainability Research Institute, UNAM Mexico. He is a member of the  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Nobel prize in 2007. His work involves, from a systemic, interdisciplinary and multi-scalar perspective, issues of bioenergy, rural eco-technologies, climate change mitigation and sustainability analysis.
