"Tecnologías I+D+i para la igualdad: Soluciones, perspectivas y retos"

El Instituto Universitario de Estudios de Género celebrará los próximos 28 y 29 de abril el V Congreso Internacional "Tecnologías I+D+i para la Igualdad: Soluciones, perspectivas y retos", un Congreso organizado por el equipo multidisciplinar UC3M4Safety.

Este congreso se presenta como una oportunidad para afianzar y reforzar un espacio de reflexión y discusión en materia de Igualdad de Género e I+D+i, con un enfoque multidisciplinar, conectando diferentes áreas de conocimiento para encontrar soluciones que ayuden a eliminar prejuicios en los diseños tecnológicos, la perpetuación de estereotipos, la violencia contra las mujeres y otros grupos vulnerables, etc. 

Con una mirada más ambiciosa, el congreso se plantea también cómo se alcanza este objetivo, pues se presentan dos problemas en el ámbito de las tecnologías I+D+i: hay menos mujeres dedicándose profesionalmente a desarrollarlas y los bienes y servicios que se generan no las contempla como usuarias finales. 

En una sociedad donde la aplicación del Internet of Things (IoT) se encuentra prácticamente en todos los ámbitos de la vida, el reto del desarrollo tecnológico debería concebirse como una herramienta que sirva para alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), y especialmente el #ODS-5 “Igualdad de género” y el #ODS-10 “Reducción de las desigualdades”. Sin embargo, la mayoría de las soluciones tecnológicas actuales no están diseñadas teniendo en cuenta las condiciones específicas de las personas que las utilizan. En este sentido, y con la intención de ampliar el carácter multidisciplinar presente en las pasadas ediciones del Congreso, se refuerza la presencia de otras áreas, como la ciberseguridad y las ciencias de la salud, y cómo la tecnología puede contribuir a que tanto la salud como la seguridad sea más accesible y equitativa en la población.

En este congreso se abre un foro de debate sobre estas cuestiones que permita identificar los retos y plantear posibles caminos a seguir. Se han ampliado los espacios de debate con personas expertas nacionales e internacionales que promueven la igualdad en las tecnologías I+D+i, y que luchan para eliminar la discriminación y los sesgos de género, así como con estudiantes y profesionales recientes, que ayudarán a renovar y revisar planteamientos, así como a pulsar la situación real hoy en día. Además, se amplía el enfoque práctico de las ediciones anteriores con talleres donde aprender y poner en práctica estrategias de investigación, desarrollo e innovación con y para una tecnología sin sesgos ni estereotipos.

El mapeo de la actividad docente, investigadora y emprendedora se plantea necesario para comenzar a diseñar este nuevo enfoque, insistiendo en el fomento de vocaciones libres de estereotipos en las edades tempranas y en el reaprendizaje para una ciencia abierta e inclusiva en las demás edades. Es necesario que la comunidad científica, y también las administraciones, empresas y la sociedad civil, se planteen una nueva forma de afrontar la educación superior, la investigación y la innovación.

‘R&D&I Technologies for Equality: Solutions, Perspectives and Challenges’.

The University Institute of Gender Studies will hold on April 28 and 29 the V International Conference "R+D+i Technologies for Equality: Solutions, perspectives and challenges", a conference organized by the multidisciplinary team UC3M4Safety.

This conference is presented as an opportunity to strengthen and reinforce a space for reflection and discussion on Gender Equality and R+D+i, with a multidisciplinary approach, connecting different areas of knowledge to find solutions that help eliminate prejudices in technological designs, the perpetuation of stereotypes, violence against women and other vulnerable groups, etc.

With a more ambitious view, the conference also considers how this objective is achieved, since there are two problems in the field of R+D+i technologies: there are fewer women professionally dedicated to developing them and the goods and services that are generated do not consider them as end users. 

In a society where the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) is found in practically all areas of life, the challenge of technological development should be conceived as a tool that serves to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and especially #SDG-5 "Gender equality" and #SDG-10 "Reduced inequalities". However, most current technological solutions are not designed with the specific conditions of the people who use them in mind. In this sense, and with the intention of expanding the multidisciplinary nature present in past editions of the conference, the presence of other areas, such as cybersecurity and health sciences, and how technology can contribute to making both health and safety more accessible and equitable in the population, is reinforced.

This conference opens a forum for debate on these issues to identify the challenges and propose possible paths to follow. The spaces for debate have been expanded with national and international experts who promote equality in R+D+i technologies, and who fight to eliminate discrimination and gender biases, as well as with students and recent professionals, who will help to renew and revise approaches, as well as to feel the real situation nowadays. In addition, the practical approach of previous editions is expanded with workshops where you can learn and put into practice research, development and innovation strategies with and for technology without bias or stereotypes.

The mapping of teaching, research and entrepreneurial activity is necessary to start the design of this new approach, insisting on the promotion of vocations free of stereotypes at an early age and on relearning for an open and inclusive science at other ages. It is necessary for the scientific community, as well as administrations, companies and civil society, to consider a new way of dealing with higher education, research and innovation.
