Welcome to EAIS 2024 Madrid, Spain
The 2024 IEEE Conference on Evolving and Adaptive Intelligent Systems (IEEE EAIS 2024) was held in Madrid, located at the heart of Iberian Peninsula, is one of the most vibrant cities in Spain and its capital.
The conference series has a history starting in 2006 in Lake District (England). It was held after that in Witten-Bommerholz (Germany), Nashville (USA), Leicester (England), Paris (France), Madrid (Spain), Singapore, Linz (Austria), Douai (France), Natal (Brazil) and Ljubljana.
The creation of new, innovative, and original methods, algorithms, and implementations of systems with a high level of intelligence, that is, with a high level of flexibility and autonomy, poses a significant research problem that needs to be addressed in the field of intelligent systems. The field of Evolving and Adaptive Intelligent Systems, inspired by continuous and life-long learning, strives to attain systems that can adapt to the domain even after they are being designed. It has emerged to play a critical role for several real-world applications, especially the ones with high complexity and where dynamics change. IEEE EAIS 2024 will be a significant international forum with an emphasis on the discussion of recent developments, the exchange of recent innovations, and the identification of open, future challenges in this field.
This year’s conference was further enriched by a plenary talk delivered by Professor Plamen Angelov, which provided deep insights into the evolution and future directions of the evolving intelligent systems. In the conference we were delighted to present the Best Paper Award and the Best Student Paper Award, both sponsored by Evolving Systems, published by Springer. These awards recognize the top-ranked submissions to the conference in terms of general quality, originality, and timeliness.
During the conference, Dr. Edwin Lughofer (1972–2023) was recognized for his admirable work in the area of Evolving Systems. His contributions have significantly advanced the field, and we are deeply grateful for his dedication and innovation.
The conference was organized by the CAOS research group from the Department of Computer Science at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. It was sponsored by IEEE, the IEEE Systems, Man, & Cybernetics Society, and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the International Program Committee members, the paper reviewers, and the Organizing Committee members for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the success of this event.
We are grateful to all participants for their invaluable contributions and look forward to ongoing advancements and collaborations in the field of evolving and adaptive intelligent systems.
