"Tecnologías I+D+i para la igualdad: Soluciones, perspectivas y retos

El Instituto Universitario de Estudios de Género celebrará los próximos 9 y 10 de mayo el III Congreso Internacional "Tecnologías I+D+i para la Igualdad: Soluciones, perspectivas y retos", un Congreso organizado por el equipo multidisciplinar UC3M4Safety.

El tema central es la Igualdad en I+D+i desde un enfoque multidisciplinar, en concreto se entrelazan el área de la ingeniería con las ciencias sociales para encontrar soluciones tecnológicas que ayuden a erradicar la violencia de género, evitar los prejuicios en los diseños tecnológicos, la perpetuación de estereotipos, etc. Esta actividad al tratarse de un congreso científico interdisciplinar está relacionada directamente con otras áreas como la salud, la tecnología, la autonomía de las mujeres, la psicología o la comunicación, entre otras. 

Recientes estudios de Feminist Technoscience Studies (FTS) han constatado que las tecnologías digitales y la Inteligencia Artificial están sesgadas en términos de género, sexo, trabajo, clase, etnia, (dis)capacidad, entre otros. Esto conlleva que se debe hacer un nuevo planteamiento desde el I+D+i sobre cómo se están diseñando los dispositivos y soluciones tecnológicas con el objeto de poder proponer soluciones que atiendan a la diversidad social y erradiquen los prejuicios. 

En una sociedad donde la aplicación del Internet of Things (IoT) se encuentra prácticamente en todos los ámbitos de la vida, el reto del desarrollo tecnológico debería concebirse como una herramienta que sirva para alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, y especialmente el número 5 “Igualdad de género”. Sin embargo, la mayoría de las soluciones tecnológicas actuales no están diseñadas teniendo en cuenta las condiciones específicas de las personas que las utilizan. La tecnología actual podría ofrecer un amplio abanico de soluciones para la protección de grupos vulnerables y la prevención de diferentes formas de violencia, pero es necesario un replanteamiento de cómo se investiga, cómo se innova y cómo se transfiere la tecnología a la sociedad. En este congreso se abre un foro de debate sobre estas cuestiones que permita identificar los retos y plantear posibles caminos a seguir.

III International Conference in R+D+i Technologies for Equality: Solutions, Perspectives and Challenges

The Institute of Gender Studies in Universidad Carlos III de Madrid will hold on May 9^th and 10^th the III International Confernece in R + D + i Technologies for Equality: Solutions, Perspectives and Challenges", a conference organized by the multidisciplinary team UC3M4Safety.

The main topic is Equality in R + D + i from a multidisciplinary approach, specifically the area of engineering is intertwined with social sciences to find technological solutions that help eradicate gender-based violence, avoid bias in technological designs, the perpetuation of stereotypes, etc. As an interdisciplinary scientific forum, there are many other related areas such as health, technology, women's autonomy, psychology or communication, among others.

Recent studies by Feminist Technoscience Studies (FTS) have found that digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence are biased in terms of gender, sex, work, class, ethnicity, (dis)ability, among others. This implies that a new approach must be made in R+D+i on how devices and technological solutions are being designed in order to propose solutions that address social diversity and eradicate bias.

In a society where the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) is found in practically all areas of life, the challenge of technological development should be conceived as a tool to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and especially number 5 "Gender equality". However, most of today's technological solutions are not designed considering the specific conditions of the end users. Current technology may offer a huge spectrum of possibilities for the protection of vulnerable groups and prevention of different forms of violence; but how research is carried out, how technology is innovated and how technology is transferred to society should be rethought. This congress opens a debate forum on these issues to identify the challenges and propose possible ways forward.
